SAN DIEGO – San Diego police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person who killed a college student in June.
Police said Darnell Smith, 20, parked his car on Pyramid Street near Kelton Road in the Emerald Hills neighborhood of San Diego at 12:20 a.m. on June 15.
He was walking up to his aunt's house with several relatives when someone approached from behind and fired several rounds, killing him, police said.
Witnesses described the shooter's vehicle as a newer black Ford Escape or similar model with tinted windows.
Smith was an employee of Cox Communications and a student at San Diego Mesa College majoring in business administration.
Anyone with information on Smith's slaying can call San Diego County Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477. A reward of up to $3,500 from Crime Stoppers and Cox Communications is being offered.
