LA JOLLA – A 67-year-old Pacific Beach woman was killed in the Bird Rock neighborhood of La Jolla Tuesday morning after being hit by a truck.
She was identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Graciella Mejia Martinez.
The accident happened at 7:45 a.m. at Van Nuys Street and La Jolla Mesa Drive, said San Diego police Sgt. Jeff Fellows. Martinez was crossing La Jolla Mesa Drive when she was hit by a 56-year-old man in a Ford pickup who was making a left turn from the eastbound lanes of Van Nuys, Fellows said.
The truck was going very slow and bumped the woman, who fell backward and hit her head, Fellows said. She died before being taken to a hospital.
The truck driver said he looked both ways before making the turn and just did not see her. Drugs and alcohol are not factors in the accident, Fellows said.
