Fla. man charged in road rage shooting of agent

ASSOCIATED PRESS

9:23 a.m. August 28, 2008

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A grand jury has indicted a Broward County man on manslaughter charges in what police are calling the road rage shooting of a federal customs agent.

The indictment was returned Thursday in Fort Lauderdale against 65-year-old James Patrick Wonder. He's being held without bail in the Aug. 5 shooting of agent Donald Pettit in the parking lot of a Pembroke Pines post office.

Police say the shooting happened after the two men got into a road rage confrontation. The killing triggered a massive law enforcement response that led to Wonder's capture outside a dialysis clinic where he was treated.

Authorities say Wonder tried to dye his hair to escape notice. Wonder's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
