DENVER – One of Republican John McCain's prospective running mates planned to stand up for him Tuesday at the site of the Democratic National Convention, while other potential picks had some down time.
McCain is expected to announce his No. 2 as early as the end of the week before his party meets for their nominating convention in St. Paul, Minn., on Monday.
Here's a look at the whereabouts of the Arizona senator's possible choices for vice president:
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was back home after campaigning in Ohio for John McCain a day earlier. He had no public appearances scheduled Tuesday, and no plans to campaign for McCain until he turns up in Denver on Thursday as part of the Republican opposition.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney planned to lobby for McCain at the site of the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with Democrats and is said to be on McCain's short list, is vacationing with family out of state, said Laura Cahill, deputy state director of his Senate office in Hartford. He has no public events planned this week.
