Angels' Kendrick goes on DL

ASSOCIATED PRESS

5:31 p.m. August 28, 2008

ANAHEIM – Second baseman Howie Kendrick, one of the Los Angeles Angels' top hitters this season, went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained left hamstring.

Kendrick, batting .308, felt tightness in the hamstring running from first to second in the fourth inning and left Wednesday night's game against Oakland, a 6-5 loss.

He had missed six weeks after injuring the same hamstring in April, but Angels manager Mike Scioscia said this injury didn't appear to be as serious.

Infielder Brandon Wood was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill Kendrick's spot on the roster. The 23-year-old Wood, considered one of the most promising young hitters in the organization, batted just .125 while appearing in 22 games for the Angels earlier this year. He had one home run and two RBIs in 64 at-bats and struck out 21 times.

In 103 games for Salt Lake this year, he's batting .296, with 31 homers and 84 RBIs and has struck out 104 times in 395 at-bats.
