CHARGERS 10, RAIDERS 0
Key play: Vincent Jackson's catch of a third-and-short deep ball produced 46 yards and a first-and-goal, but it led only to a field goal, whereas the Chargers linebacker duo of Shaun Phillips and Jyles Tucker set up a TD. Phillips sacked Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell to force a fumble that Tucker recovered at the Oakland 12-yard line.
Key stat: When he crossed the goal line with only 6:17 elapsed in the first quarter, LaDainian Tomlinson had 25 yards rushing, one more than he had for the entire game against Atlanta last week. But he also had seven carries, half his number against the Falcons.
Not in the box score: To get the game on local TV, the NFL Network bought out the remaining tickets to avert a blackout, but it was apparent that a lot of season-ticket holders either unloaded their ducats on Raiders fans or simply didn't come to the game. Even as the Chargers drove to a score with the opening drive, there was a decidedly Silver & Black feel to the crowd, plus an enormous number of empty seats.

CHARGERS 27, RAIDERS 7
Key play: The first of two interceptions by linebacker Stephen Cooper thwarted a promising Oakland drive and paid off big-time with Rivers' 59-yard TD pass, thrown on a line, to a streaking Jackson behind the Raiders secondary. It was Jackson's third catch of the first half, covering 122 yards.
Key stat: 96 yards, 15 plays. The statement drive started in the first quarter -- and a couple false-start penalties actually pushed the Chargers back to their own 1-yard line -- but it ended with Darren Sproles running the ball three straight times and catching an 8-yard TD pass to open the second quarter.
Not in the box score: As always, there was just something about the Raiders that got the zebras to cranking up their own throwing arms, and the yellow hankies weren't flying for just offsides or holding. Rather, four of the five penalties against Oakland in the first 24:06 of the game were for personal fouls, and another call for facemask was offset by a Chargers penalty.

CHARGERS 27, RAIDERS 7
Key play: In keeping with the defensive theme of the Chargers evening, Phillips and Tucker again did their tandem thing on the Raiders, killing a Raiders drive with their two-man sack of replacement quarterback Andrew Walter.
Key stat: When the Chargers stuffed Walter short of a first down on third-and-inches at the Oakland 15-yard line, forcing a punt, it was the seventh time in nine opportunities that the Raiders failed to convert on third down. At the same point, the Chargers made good on 7-of-13 third-down situations.
Not in the box score: With 10 seconds left in the first half, Justin Miller of the Raiders returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. As he came out of the locker room for the second half, the Chargers' kickoff team already was on the field and ready to go, so Miller strolled past and thumped his chest while staring at the coverage unit. Miller caught Kaeding's ensuing kick and almost immediately got dropped cold by the 1-2 of Kassim Osgood and Brandon Siler.

CHARGERS 34, RAIDERS 7
Key play: As much as Tomlinson bedevils the Raiders, Sproles has become more than just a pesky mosquito to Oakland as well. He scored on his second TD catch of the game, a short pass play he took 18 yards, boosting the San Diego lead to 27 points with seven minutes to play. He would have had an 86-yard TD via punt return, too, but it was nullified by penalty.
Key stat: Whether it's a positive or a negative -- and it's probably a bit of both -- the Chargers maintained a constant, comfortable lead over the Raiders despite a grand total of zero catches by tight end Antonio Gates and primary wide receiver Chris Chambers.
Not in the box score: Unabashedly, they insist on calling themselves the "Team of the Decades." It could be a couple more decades before the Raiders, who haven't resembled even a good team since they lost that Super Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium, contend again for the title of a division they used to own.
-- CHRIS JENKINS

TIM SULLIVAN: Listed at 5-foot-6, 181 pounds, Darren Sproles may not be built for a much more rugged role than he already plays. The Bolts' 25-year-old lightning bug has accumulated 1,708 assorted yards on 124 touches.

That's how more games were supposed to go. Maybe it was not supposed to be as easy as it so often is against the Raiders, but still.

CHARGERS REPORT: Twenty-two passes. Ten completions. That's not the kind of game a QB concocts in his wildest dreams, but Philip Rivers doesn't have leeway to be choosy.

Q:
Kevin, What do think of Norv's ability to evaluate and develop players? Much has been made about the Charger's lack of success in the last 2 drafts, but don't we need to consider who's been developing these players? I know Marty is gone...but you have to admit, he was much better at getting these late round draft picks, undrafted FA to perform (Antonio Gates, Kris Dielman Michael Turner, Shawn Phillips, Nick Hardwick, etc.)
- -- Long Vu, San Diego

A:
There are many reason there were so many undrafted players on the Chargers from 2003-06. The Chargers needed players. They didn't think they needed them this year. Marty had nothing to do with player selection after 2004 and every little to do with it then. Norv has a little more input, but that's AJ Smith's department. As for developing them, you give the head coach too much credit and blame. The asisstants (many of them the same assistants as under Marty) are the ones who develop players.
