BOYS DIVISION I
Compton Dominguez (31-2)
vs. Oakland McClymonds (30-0), tonight, 8
It's the final game of the championships and always the highlight. This one features unbeaten but nationally untested McClymonds, led by center Frank Otis. Dominguez is paced by junior Jordan Hamilton.
BOYS DIVISION II
Santa Ana Mater Dei 65, San Jose Archbishop Mitty 53
Behind an 18-point effort from 6-8 junior Andy Brown, Mater Dei (35-1) captured its second straight state title last night and seventh overall. UCLA recruit Drew Gordon had 16 points and 16 rebounds for Mitty (31-2).
BOYS DIVISION III
Santa Margarita (29-5)
vs. Sacramento (30-3), today, 2:45 p.m.
ARCO Arena will be rocking in support of the Sacramento Dragons, who weren't even in the Top 25 a week ago. Santa Margarita's tough schedule makes it the favorite.
BOYS DIVISION IV
North Hollywood Campbell Hall 83, Berkeley St. Mary's 61
It took a while, but once freshman Austin McBroom started shredding St. Mary's defense, Campbell Hall opened as much as a 31-point lead before the Panthers rallied. McBroom, a 5-10 guard, scored 30 points, 16 more than his previous single-game high. UCLA recruit Jrue Holiday wrapped up his high school career with 19 points and 11 rebounds for Campbell Hall (31-5). Chris Brew, a junior commit to UC Santa Barbara, scored 16 for St. Mary's (33-2).
BOYS DIVISION V
La Cañada Renaissance (27-3)
vs. Ross Branson (30-3), today, 11:15 a.m.
Renaissance recorded a big win over L.A. Price in the SoCal final. Now the Wildcats face the two-time state champion Bulls, who have won 22 straight.
GIRLS DIVISION I
Long Beach Poly (29-2) vs. Berkeley (29-3), tonight, 6
Long Beach Poly is trying to become as dominant as the school's football team, going for a third straight state title behind Jasmine Dixon. Berkeley won the NorCal Regional title by 19 points.
GIRLS DIVISION II
SJ Archbishop Mitty 59, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 49 (OT)
It took a few extra minutes, but Mitty (23-11) prevailed over upset-minded Mira Costa (28-7). The Mustangs, who won all three SoCal Regional games in overtime, led most of the night but needed a late free throw to send the game into overtime. Once there, the Monarchs dominated 13-3. Mira Costa's Mikak Maly-Karros, stepdaughter of former major leaguer Eric Karros (Patrick Henry), led all scorers with 20 points.
GIRLS DIVISION III
San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral (32-0)
vs. Anaheim Magnolia (27-6), today, 1 p.m.
Anything but a blowout would be a shocker. Sacred Heart is No. 1 in the nation and is the two-time defending champion. The Irish beat previously unbeaten Stockton St. Mary's in what should have been the title game.
GIRLS DIVISION IV
Vallejo St. Patrick/St. Vincent 67, La Jolla Country Day 65
St. Patrick/St. Vincent (28-5) hit four long three-point field goals to rally from an 11-point deficit. La Jolla Country Day (26-6) entered the game ranked No. 1 in the state in Division IV.
GIRLS DIVISION V
San Luis Obispo Mission Prep (27-4)
vs. Ross Branson (28-7), today, 9:30 a.m.
Branson is going for a repeat. Despite their seven losses and what seems like an injury de jour, the Bulls are the clear favorite in this division.
